Arthur was born at Masterton.
His father had jumped ship and possibly changed his name from Leahy. He later deserted his wife & children and was never found.
His mother remarried to a Charles Moore.
Arthur married Violet Rand (born at Foxton in 1884) in 1905.
They had two sons & three daughters. One son died at 9 months & the other when only 26.
One son-in-law, Thomas Nichol, served in WW2.
Arthur was a settler at Weraroa in 1905 then became a labourer then driver in Foxton.
