Charles Henry Lewis PALMER
Charles was born at Wellington.
He married Clara Perry (born at Upper Hutt in 1869) at Lower Hutt in 1888.
They had 12 children, 5 boys & 7 girls over a 21 year period from 1889 to 1910. One son died at 7 & one at 1 year old. The boys are buried together in Levin. All but the first two children were born in Levin.
One son, Harold & one son-in-law, Colin Fyffe, served in WW1.
Charles signed the 1905 petition for the Levin township and was also on the unofficial 1905 census.
Charles started his working life as a millhand at Whiteman's Vly in Wainuiomata.
He moved the family to Levin around 1891 where he continued to work as a millhand, probably for the Prouses as they moved many families with them from Wainuiomata to Levin. Around 1914 Charles moved to Longburn in the Manawatu to be a commercial traveller.
