Charles was born at Romford, Essex, England.
He married Julia Heffernan (born 1871) in 1897.
They had one son & three daughters, all born in Levin.
From approx 1896 though to 1919, Charles was a millhand or labourer in Levin. He & the family appeared on the unofficial 1905 census (for the Levin township petition).
The family moved to Wellington, then Lower Hutt by 1922.
The son, Charles Samuel, served in WW1, enlisting in 1917 whilst still living in Levin.
Charles was one of four brothers who all moved to Levin to work in the 1890's.
