He married Martha Brady (born at Palmerston Nth in 1888) at Palmerston Nth in 1911.
They had six sons & two daughters. The youngest son died in infancy.
Three sons, Joseph, James & Maurice & two son-in-laws, Leslie Harding & John Ahern, all served in WW2. James was killed in action at Crete.
Charles started as a monumental mason in Palmerston Nth, moving to Levin around 1922. Later in his working life he described himself as a monumental sculptor.
