Clarry was born in Johnsonville.

He married Paulina May (born in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, Scotland) in Johnsonville in 1907.

They had one son.

Clarry was a carter then an inspector in Johnsonville from the early 1900's to1919.

In 1919 he was in Levin as an auctioneer in Bath St & then a tobacconist also in Bath St.

Before marriage Paulina was a teacher.

Some time between 1928 & 1933 they both moved to Durban in South Africa where they both died.

Their son Keith remained in Wellington.
