Donald William MATHESON

Donald was born at Dunedin.

He married Blanche Wilton (born at Wellington in 1886) at Levin in 1908.

They had two sons & two daughters.

The first son, Kenneth, was killed in action for the RAF over Germany in 1944.

The 2nd son, Stewart also served in WW2. He was captured in Greece and was a POW in Poland.

Donald also served in WW1.

He was a draper by trade & by 1908 was a partner in the drapery business, Stiles & Matheson, on Oxford St, Levin.

By 1928 he was in Wellington as an agent, an organiser & a civil servant before retiring to Oneroa by 1949.

He was a Levin Borough Councillor from 1911 to 1915 & Mayor of Levin from 1919 to 1923.
