Edward was born at Lower Hutt.
He married Emily Jacka (born at Wellington in 1866) at Wellington in 1893.
They had 3 daughters & 2 sons.
One son, Leslie, & one son-in-law, Charles McAllum, served in WW1.
Edward started as a farmer at Haywards, tried his hand at being a grocer in Wellington & then came back to farming in Levin around 1902 & then Shannon around 1911.
He then became a Company Secretary in Inaha & Manaia , around 1919, before moving to new Plymouth as an accountant.
Whilst in Levin he was on the 1905 unofficial census for the Levin township petition.
