Ernest was born in England.
We are unable to determine when he cam to NZ.
He appears to have never married, although there is a widow called Lucy mentioned in his probate in England.
He first comes to light as a dealer in Christchurch, then a jeweller in Akaroa. From 1896 he is shown as a chemist in Mangaweka then Levin from 1899. In 1913 he moved to Waikino and in 1914 to Whakatane.
He was elected to the 1st Levin Borough Council in 1906 and resigned in 1909.
He travelled to & from England several times form 1910 onwards.
