Horton was born at Palmerston Nth.

He married Vina Douglas (born at Levin in 1908) at Levin in 1933.

They one son.

Vina was the daughter of the well known Levin builder G K Douglas.

Horton was a signwriter starting in Palmerston Nth. He was in a shop in Oxford St (owned by his father-in-law) as a painter, signwriter etc. The shop was heavily damaged in a fire in 1939.

By 1949 he is in Blenheim, still as a signwriter.

His son, Russell started work as an auto electrician in Blenheim then in Levin before moving to the USA after 1981.

Horton served in the NZ machine gun battallion in WW2.
