John George PINK

John was born at Kent, England.

He married Sarah Taylor (Born at Hertfordhire, England in 1846) at Strood, England in 1867.

John was a policeman.

They had two sons & then immigrated to NZ via Wellington in May 1874. Another son was born on board two days before they arrived.

They subsequently had five more sons & one daughter.

John died early at age 42 and Sarah moved to Ohau. She married again, however it was not a happy marriage and she left the 2nd husband. (See obituary Horowhenua Chronicle 14 Jun 1924)

Most of the family settled in the Ohau or Levin region. One son, Frederick, was a successful shop owner in Oxford St, Levin (see his own Profile).

One son Arthur, & the son-in-law, Roydy Purcell served in WW1.

At least 8 of the family are buried at Tiro Tiro Rd cemetery in Levin.
