John William THOMPSON

John was born at Invercargill.

He married Minnie Mailman (born at New Plymouth in 1864) at Wanganui in 1897.

They had 3 sons & 4 daughters, one of whom died in infancy.

One son, John, served in WW1 and died not long after returning in 1918. A son-in-law, George Winter also served in WW1.

John started as a journalist in Invercargill. By 1896 he is in Marton as a compositor. By 1911 he is a bookseller in Oxford St, Levin (where Noel Leemings are today). He then moved to Wilton St round 1925 and set up a printing business from his home.
