Richard was born at Whitemans Valley.
He married May Jackson (born at Cobden in 1868) at Palmerston Nth in 1896.
They had two sons & one daughter.
Both sons, Richard H & Herbert served In WW1 & WW2 respectively.
Richard started out as a bushman in Levin around 1893. He then became a bullock driver at Te Horo before moving back to Levin around 1900 as a teamster. By 1922 he is living at Saxton St as a farmhand.
