Roderick was born at Hokio.
He married Hannah Cameron (born at Rangitikei in 1860) at Wellington in 1890.
They had 6 sons & 2 daughters. Two of the children dies as infants.
Two sons, Hector R & Allan A served in WW1.
Roderick was a farmer, like his father, for most of the time in Kawiu Rd, Levin.
Roderick had a great relationship with local Iwi, including being fluent in the Maori language.
He was the author of the definitive book on the Horowhenua "Te Hekenga".
