Thomas was born in Lugwardine, Herfordshire, England.
He married Annie Bevan (born at Otaki in 1881) in 1905.
They had two children one of each.
Annie died in 1924 and Robert remarried a widow, Dolly De Malmanche (nee Ward) in 1926.
In the electoral rolls Thomas is shown as an Ironmonger from 1905 to 1914 in Weraroa/Levin. From then till he retired around 1957 he is described as a merchant. His business wa W Bull & Co, farmer merchants, wine & spirits merchants, grain seed & produce merchants.
He was also Secretary of the Levin Racing Club.
Whilst he was alive he & his wives lived at 83 (later 25) Queenwood Rd, Levin.
