William was born in Scotland.
He married Elizabeth James (born at Wellington in 1868) in 1889.
They had one daughter & four sons, one of whom died in childhood.
One son, John served in the Boer war & two, Robert & William (Jnr) served in WW1.
William (Snr) was a carpenter by trade. However whilst living in Levin he was in business, firstly as Pringle & Bould & then as Pringle & Hastie. He also individually & collectively owned property in Oxford St.
Both his in laws and his daughter are buried in Levin.
