William was born at Leigh, Kent, England.
He married Frances Tolhurst (born at Hollingbourne, Kent, England in 1850) at Hollingbourne in 1871.
They had 8 sons & 3 daughters. Their first two sons died in Infancy, the first born in England & the 2nd in Foxton. A daughter died at 22, less than a year after getting married.
William was a settler in Foxton before moving to Levin around 1902 as a farmer. He retired around 1925, living in Queen St Levin.
