William was born at Longbush, Southland.
He never married.
His sister, Alice was born at Invercargill in 1875. She never married either.
Their father, John, died in 1876 when they were both infants.
William started as an enginedriver, living in Cambridge St, Levin. He also worked as a mill hand before becoming a mechanical engineer.
Alice lived in Wellington. However they were both buried, beside each other, at the Tiro Tiro Rd cemetery.
