His first marriage in 1908 was to a widow, Matilda Scott (nee Moran) born at Wellington in 1871. They had one daughter. She died quite young & remarried Annie Richardson (born at NSW Australia) at Auckland in 1917
They had 3 daughters & one son.
William started working life as a pastry cook & confectioner. After his 2nd marriage he became a publican at various places, including Nelson, Wellington & Auckland. He was the publican at the Grand Hotel in Levin in 1927.
