William PACEY

William was born at Castlemaine, Australia.

He married Thomasina Herriot (born at Dunedin in 1863) in 1883

They had 7 children, 6 boys & 1 girl. The girl & the 1st born both died in infancy.

The next oldest boy drowned at the age of 20. All the rest of the boys (4) served in WW1, and 3 came home. Charles (who had signed up in Aug 1914) was killed at Gallopoli in Aug 1915.

William was, for the most part, a hotelkeper at places like Dunedin, Tuapeka, Alexandra, Palmerston Nth, Kaikoura and Renwicktown. He was the publican at the Levin Hotel 1904 - 1905.

He was made bankrupt 3 times, 188, 1902, 1908 and was arrested for false pretences in 1919 where he was described as talkative and like a drink.

William & Thomasina divorced in 1907. William married again to Jean Fraser in 1911 & Thomasina married again to Edward Dorset in 1907.
